Negros Occidental

Negros Occidental was initially part of Region VI or Western Visayas Region. But in 2015, it was included to the newest region of the Philippines called Negros Island Region together with Negros Oriental province. It was our entry point for our Western Visayas Region Adventure because it’s just an hour away from Iloilo by sea and we visited our colleague’s family in Cadiz City. Bacolod-Silay Airport was opened last 2008 in replace of Bacolod City Domestic Airport.

A common dish originated from Negros Occidental is the Bacolod Chicken Inasal. You can have a taste of this authentic meal in Manokan Country located in Bacolod City, about 1km away from Bacolod Port where you can ride ferry going to Iloilo.

Also known as “Sugarbowl of the Philippines” because of its rich production of sugar, it has 13 cities 4 of which we have visited, Bacolod City, Silay City, Talisay City and Cadiz City.

About pinay travelaholic

A Filipina who loves to travel. Born with a family of travelers and started traveling when she was just 2months old. Raised in the hustle and bustling life of the metro but has savored the laid back lifestyle of the countryside during summer vacations. At a very young age, she has experienced being stranded on a train for 3 days, being thrown inside the window of the bus just to save a seat and “top loaded” (riding on the roof) on a PUJ just to reach their destination. …Traveling became her adventure since then.
