Macaraeg Ancestral House & Lechon Iligan, Lanao del Norte

Another tourists spot in Iligan city is the Macaraeg-Macapagal ancestral house which was declared a heritage house last 2002. 

Owned by the family of Mrs. Evangeline Macaraeg, wife of the late president Diosdado Macapagal, here is where former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo stayed during her childhood years.

Also, across the street is the Gloria’s Ihaw-ihaw Eatery where you can have a taste of the famous Lechon Iligan.

Ma. Christina Falls and NPCA Park, Lanao del Norte

A famous landmark in Iligan City is the majestic Ma. Christina falls. It stands 320 feet, gushing water to the Agus River which serves as a source of electrical power. Also known as the “twin falls”, it has a huge boulder at the center which divides the waterfalls. Twin falls is visible during rainy season or every time they open the dam.

The falls is inside NPC Nature Park and is maintained National Power Corporation. Aside from the mesmerizing view of the falls they have amenities like huts and cottages where you and your family can have picnics.  They also have wide variety of flora and faunas, aviary and a mini zoo.

Lanao del Norte Province

Lanao del Norte is one of the five provinces of Northern Mindanao Region and Iligan is its city. Iligan City is an hour and a half ride from Cagayan De Oro City; add two more hours and you can reach Ozamis City in Misamis Occidental. This prompted us to hire a van and get to these two provinces in a day to complete the whole Northern Mindanao Region.

 

We availed the service of Ajis Rent a Car and they gave us a rate of P6,500 which includes 12 hours travel, gas and driver.  At the port, the vehicle line in queue was quite long so we opted to ride the barge on our own and let the van just wait for us. Due to this, we got 10% discount and paid only P5,852.
